December 05, 2008 http://www.emf-health.com/blog/ "A Switzerland University study reported a month ago that people living within 50 meters (about 50 yards) of a high-voltage power line were more likely to die with Alzheimer’s disease. After 15 years of living near a 220-380 kV power line, the odds of dying with Alzheimer’s were double the expected rate, according to the report. This is not the first study making the connection between Alzheimer’s and EMF exposure. Back in 1994, a joint U.S.–Finnish team has linked occupational EMF exposures to the disease, and the association appears to be quite strong. In a paper presented at the 4th International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders in Minneapolis, Dr. Eugene Sobel of the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine in Los Angeles reported a series of significant relative risks that are, he said, higher than those reported for leukemia and other types of cancer. Seamstresses who use industrial sewing machines appeared to be particularly vulnerable. Dr. Sobel just last year concluded in a review for the Bioinitiative Report that there is “strong epidemiological evidence” that magnetic fields are a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease." |
